The idea of social business is that profit and philanthropy can go hand in hand.  Any business in any industry can endeavor to toe the "triple bottom line" (people, planet and profit).  Selfport is designed to be a social business, by giving people tools to be social entrepreneurs.

Our first area of focus is to level the playing field in the media industry.  By uploading, promoting and judging media on this platform, together we will be building a grassroots media empire.  The community media industry is a collaboration, for mutual profit, between audience (promoters and judges) and media producers (anyone.)

One way that Selfport is a social business is that up to 88% of our revenue flows back out to the community (You!)  Beyond opening up the media industry for more opportunity, we also offer more ways for people to earn through education, using our event tool, offering services, and even investing in each other.

The best way to learn about how all this works, is just to get started for free.  Upload your music, videos, pictures, writing, or start exploring the uploads of others, and add them to your promoter list, to start getting promoter points, or judge and be judged, to build your judge power.  Later, when you find sponsors, you can earn and win too.

Selfport is feature rich, because it's designed to improve global socio economic conditions.  Since this involves generating a new economic model, that works better for everyone, without a revolution, without upsetting existing business, political and financial institutions, even aiming for simplicity, there is some necessary complexity.

This will be an ongoing collaborative effort, and we ask for your help, simply by jumping in and playing.  Selfport is built on the principal that one person, or a small group, with very little resources, can change the world significantly, for the better.  But of course, this can and will never happen without community collaboration.

Help us make this site better.  Selfport is a true garage business endeavor.  Where competitors like Paypal or Facebook had $10 million, Selfport was built purely as a labor of love, through 1000s of hours of sweat, as a spiritual mission, with a world sized vision, that together, we can solve all world problems.

The solution, we believe, is a highly distributed, micro-economy.  While historically, conventional business, and the economic pyramid structure, has slowly raised living standards, we are now poised for a quantum leap.  Billions of people will have the choice to leave employment for large businesses or governements, as entrepreneurs.

We believe this is a natural evolutionary leap, that is already happening.  Many movements are converging, such as micro-finance, entreprenerial tools like adsense, eBay, self publishing, Amazon, iTunes, Etsy, Zazzle, Youtube, just to name a few.  But this is just the crysallis.  The banking caterpillar of history is about to metamorphose.

Below are some of our earlier materials, to explain how Selfport can give us all new ways to be involved in this process.  But the best way to learn is to just jump in.  There are many ways to colloborate on this platform, with Selfport itself, or with each other.  We welcome feedback and involvement.
