Managers

Manager strategies

Manage a mix of local and global sponsors.  That way, you can apply two or more sponsors to the same membership.  Example: a membership in the League of Music could be sponsored in the global games by Sony, and in the San Francisco games by a local hotel or restaurant.

Steps:

1. Think of businesses you like, local or global in reach.

2. Go to the businesses, tell them you want to be a sponsorship manager for them.  Tell them it’s a great way to support their community (including you), and bring in business.  Direct them to the video information of the value proposition for sponsors.

It takes 2 minutes to watch a quick overview.  (The video shows an example of a real business sponsoring people.)

3. Suggest you can make a demo profile for them.  (show them the 2 minute explanation video).  Explain that this profile will not be visible to the public, but can allow them to see how their presence would look and work on Selfport, with no work for them.

4. When they agree, make their demo profile, using the meta-profile feature.  (use the 2 minute tutorial video for tips and tricks.)  Match the demo profile to the company’s web-site, so they can see how their branding can be consistent, and flow between the two.

5. In the account of the meta-profile, assign yourself as the sponsorship manager (2 minute tutorial video.)  Show them how this works.

6. Explain that to make their profile visible to the public, they have two choices.  (They can do both, too.)

      a. Give you permission, and leave you as the admin of their profile.

      b. Join Selfport, and you will nominate them as an admin.  (Send them an invite.)

7. Explain that, as a further safeguard, against infringement on trademarks, to enable transactions, they need to pay a verification fee, using an official company payment method.

8. Suggest: in addition to being a manager of their sponsorships, you’d also like to stay on as admin of their profile, to help bring them business.  Maybe you could do this for free for a month or two.  And if you prove your value, you could negotiate a fee to remain a profile admin.

9. Once you are managing an active account, you must find people to sponsor.  Ask your sponsor what kind of people they would like representing them (EG, musicians, comedians, documentary makers.)  Discuss age range, and other demographics (for musicians, should it be hip hop, jazz, etc.)  If the business is local, you will want to sponsor local talent.  If they are global, location may not matter, but other criteria may be at play.

10. Scout your talent.  For musicians, an easy way to find them is on Myspace.  Even if they are local, once you find one local musician, simply go through their friends list.  Create the sponsorship offer, and go send it to them on Myspace.  The process only takes a few minutes.

11. Of course you can also network through local friends and family, and visit local venues to meet talent.

12. As Selfport grows, you’ll be able to scout talent right on the site, since a membership can be sponsored in multiple games, by multiple sponsors.  You can also look through the sponsorship recommendations.

13. When your talent accepts the sponsorship, and you confirm through the sponsor’s profile, you get your cut.  This is a subscription, so as long as it runs, this is residual income.  However, as manager, you will want to review the kind of material your talent posts, and help them to get seen.  You can use things like the promoter feature, and rate and review your talents’ entries, as well as share them on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Once you develop your talent pool, you can show new sponsors your list, and if they like them, they can quickly be added  as a sponsor of these members.  You will also have data, on just how many click throughs each of these memberships produced, for each sponsor.

You also get a cut of sponsor incentive offers.  Incentives are good for the talent, it’s one of the ways they earn money.  Sponsors get highlighted locations based on their incentives.  The more your sponsor pays in incentives, the fewer # of talent you’ll need to find.

How to Make $30,000 a year

To earn $30k, the # of talent you’ll need to find and represent media makers or talent, from 1400 down to 110 or less, depending on a few variables:

  1. If you represent multiple sponsors, and they are complimentary, you can sponsor the same talent with multiple sponsors.  Again, this is good for the talent, for several reasons.

    a. they may be entered in multiple games this way.
    b. additional sponsors in the same game compete with each other, offering incentives to become "top sponsor."
    c. more invested sponsors means the player is more highly valued, and easier to find.
  2. If your sponsor offers incentives, it reduces the # of talent you must manage.

#s of talent/sponsors you must manage, to earn $30k

10 sponsors (no incentives offered), all sponsor all your talent, in video entries, you need to find 111 people to sponsor

10 sponsors (no incentives offered), all sponsor all your talent, in music only entries, you need to find 140 people to sponsor

10 sponsors (no incentives offered), half sponsor each of your talent, in mixed entries, you need to find 250 people to sponsor

10 sponsors (no incentives offered), 1/4 sponsor each of your talent, in mixed entries, you need to find 500 people to sponsor
