Sponsors
Value Proposition to Sponsors
Sponsors can be anyone, a fan, a family member, a business, etc.
If your sponsor is a business, this is a form of advertising for the business.
But it is also a good way for businesses to connect directly with people,
to support the community, to go beyond business as usual,
and support the community, and individual development.
Why Businesses want to sponsor people on Selfport
1. It’s a form of advertising and promotion, which is more effective than other types, because:
a. The sponsored person will invite friends and family to see their entry, to draw votes. For local companies, many of these will be local people. All will view the sponsor favorably, for sponsoring their friend, child, brother, etc.
b. They are permanently the sponsor of that entry…unlike other forms of advertising, their relationship to attention attractor won’t disappear when the ad budget runs out.
c. The sponsorship manager will also be working to get views to that entry, and therefore the sponsor.
2. The business gets a social network profile, completely customizable in appearance, where clients can be connections (friends). Through this, the business can interact with the community, and draw more business. Amazingly, very few businesses have a presence like this, even hotels and restaurants, for which the value is obvious. 3. By taking IMUs as a form of payment, they can recycle a lot of their ad budget, starting with the 25% earned by the manger. Beyond that, game winners, and other people earning money on Selfport will look for places they can spend their IMUs (to avoid the fee to convert them back to dollars, or whatever currency). This will bring new business, and sponsorships will more than pay for themselves. 4. Each sponsored person is likely to patronize the businesses that sponsored them, so, even before their friends and family, if only the manager and sponsoree become clients of the sponsor, that activity should already be profitable. 5. Selfport is a social business. That is, we recirculate up to 88% of all income through the community, starting with 25% as a fee to the sponsorship manager. So businesses of all sizes and types can directly, personally support people in the community, and stimulate the economy. 6. Selfport has a larger mission, to improve world socio-economic conditions, through social entrepreneurialism. By supporting themselves and their community, they help drive Selfport. So this is a way any business can add to their triple bottom line (profit, people, planet.) 7. Other members of Selfport, potential sponsorees, managers and others, will be looking through Sponsors, because of the potential for becoming professionally engaged. This brings more attention to businesses, and allows them to engage in a partnership-like way with their clientele. They will search based on location, so it’s effective for local businesses. And for global businesses, they’ll search within the global games, so it works for them too. 8. Businesses can determine the direct payoff of sponsorship and presence on Selfport in various ways: a. Taking IMUs will determine the quantity of business coming through Selfport (international monetary units: IMUs, are a fully convertible currency. They can be changed to dollars or any other form of currency, or re-spent to pay for sponsorships, pay vendors, pay someone to admin the business profile, etc.)
b. Offering a coupon on their profile (could be 10% discount for mentioning their favorite sponsoree)
If the ratio of business to sponsorship is favorable, there is no reason they wouldn’t incrementally increase their sponsorship budget, giving managers a way to grow their earnings.
9. The business can also pay a small fee to the manager, or another member of the community, to maintain their profile, and promote them through activities on Selfport. (Any admin of their profile can do other activities on Selfport “on behalf of” the business…such as respond to comments, rate and review things, post picture, send open mail, etc. It’s easy to track the quantity of activities done, and the views they’ve generated.) 10. The sponsor can also participate in the Sponsors League. Members of this League compete for honors and prizes based on how much they’ve benefitted the community, such as best incentives offered. The sponsor can be sponsored in the sponsor’s league. An example of this would be, a shoestore in San Francisco could be sponsored by Nike, or an ISP might be sponsored by HP.
Possible objections, and responses:
Objection: if I sponsor somone on Selfport now, in the beginning, when it's small,
will enough viewers see my product to make it worth the investment?
response: Although it's true that the bigger it gets, the more people will see the sponser
(and the sponsor will permanently be attached to that entry)
one reason "size doesn't matter" or doesn't matter as much as with other sites is,
sponsorship on Selfport is very personal.
The singer, dancer or comedian the local business sponsors will probably
personally become a client. They and the sponsorship manager (also a local)
will personally recruit family and friends in the area, to view, rate and review
the entry, and will personally ask them to support the sponsor.
